WHAT IS PP PLASTIC PACKAGING?
PP plastic, or polypropylene, is a food-safe packaging material widely used for its heat resistance and leakproofing.
In the Viro range, we offer PP sauce tub-and-lid combos, recyclable PP tubs, and clear PP smoothie cups with dome lids. For events and cold drinks, Viro also supplies clear recyclable PP beer cups.
RECYCLABILITY OF PP PLASTIC PACKAGING
PP is identified as plastic code 5. It can be recycled when it's collected, sorted, and kept free of food contamination. In South Africa, PP is part of the established rigid plastics recycling stream. This means your used packaging material is more likely to be recognised, collected, sorted, and reprocessed than niche materials.
Plastics SA's latest industry reporting shows 96,838 tonnes of PP recycled in 2024, and places the domestic output recycling rate for PP at about 26%.

ECO-FRIENDLINESS
PP's environmental advantage lies in its high performance and recyclability. It can be reused by customers and made with fewer materials for the same strength.
OUR COMMITMENT TO LOOP CERTIFIED PRODUCTS
At Viro, we have created product standards and certifications to mandate local production, circular design for recyclability, and minimum levels of post-consumer recycled content. Our Loop Certified initiative underscores our dedication to sustainability and circularity in packaging solutions.
