WHAT IS AQUEOUS-COATED PAPER PACKAGING

Aqueous-coated paper is paper finished with a water-based coating that improves resistance to moisture and grease, helping fibre packaging perform more like plastic-lined formats in takeaway and delivery use. It is typically positioned as an alternative to PE or wax coatings.

AQUEOUS-COATED PAPER PACKAGING RECYCLABILITY

Aqueous-coated paper is a PAP22 material. Recyclability depends on coating chemistry and coating weight, as well as on whether local mills can repulp and screen the material effectively. Paper recycling guidance commonly notes that non-fibre elements can create challenges for mills, so acceptance is not automatic because the base is paper.
